on to the Grand Canyon

The sunrise was beautiful at Lake Powell, we went swimming before 10 am, the water was nice

while we were walking on this bridge just before entering Grand Canyon NP, we heard Anna Pigeon say that the temps at the North Rim were way cooler.....oh yeah uh huh!

I was beginning to get weary at this point, not enough showering, not enough real bed ...I honestly felt like watching tv. Campsite at the North Rim..

eat..

Anyway we were at the Grand Canyon! I went for a short hike with Gina on the first day there and saw the crack, it was really hazy out and somewhat lackluster!

I got up early on the second day hoping for better light and encountereed a deer who was not much scared of my presence...the light was still not great

the white-tailed squirrel was always in my peripheral vision

my love got red dirt pores at the Grand Canyon and I built a sculpture I call "the north rim"

gina's drive-by to Lake Powell

she likes to shoot out the window....

the sky driving into our Lake Powell campsite stayed red and had intermittent lightning throughout the night, this was the first of three nights that we slept without the fly on the tent because it was just too hot! I contemplated sleeping on the picnic table this night but the bugs and the infrequent sprinkles drove me behind the net

descent into the heat...

we left Denver on our way to an overnight stay at a campground on the southern end of Lake Powell. We rode thru Glenwood Canyon in Colorado and then south thru Arches National Park in Utah, thru Moab. It was hot and red as hell !!

this formation in Arches is called "The Three Gossips"

this is "Balanced Rock"

I heard Moab referred to as "west Boulder" once when I lived in Colorado, the rocks and terrain here are much bigger and different than in the foothills of Denver/Boulder.

from "the Windows" section of the park

the next feature was called "Park Avenue"

loved the rocks in that park but really wouldn't want to spend much time there...the heat was way too intense.

denver..

we stayed at my Uncle Jerry's place for a couple of nights after Folks Fest, visited some old hi-school buddies of mine and saw my daughter briefly while catching a Rockies game ....a short rest before hitting the road again.

I graduated hi-school with Paul, his fine wife Debbie was my coach thru labor and delivery with my only baby...many many memories while sitting on the porch of their place

a pretty squash in debbie's garden

nice tree art

my cousin Cori apparently likes to sleep in the back yard with trusty companion Luna, instead of her room. We stayed in her room....a shout out to cousin Adam in Upland too, he gave up his twin for us!

went to a Colorado Rockies game at Coors Field, nice long shadows

saw this tee a few rows in front of us....festivarians are everywhere!

found this in Wiki before we left on our trip ; "While most of the seats in Coors Field are dark green, the seats in the 20th row of the upper deck are purple. This marks the city's one mile elevation point."
Gina had to go and sit in one.

Rockies beat the Astros and we saw the sunset on a beautiful Denver nite

The road from Yellowstone to Denver

We spent alot of hours on the road so alot of pictures got shot from an open car window or rite thru the bug splat winshield...from here on I will refer to them as drive-bys. Gina is very fond of drive by shooting...

the Grand Tetons

we ran across quite a few one way traffic only spots on our travels, this one was led by convoy thru the thick of the construction
